Laptop Cooling Tips
Getting a laptop can be one of the best things to happen in life especially if you have been yearning for one for a very long time. You might have saved for a few months by not eating that favorite snack or not going to Starbucks everyday just to save some change that is enough to buy a laptop. In any case, buying a laptop is an investment worth protecting. Laptops are not cheap gadgets we could throw around just for fun. They should be cared for if you want it to last for a long time (or as long as it should…). However, like all gadgets laptops get hot when used for long periods of time. The heat generated can damage your laptop and you want to avoid that. So now we are going to look at a few laptop cooling tips that can help all laptop owners avoid having their laptop overheat.
The 3 Don’ts of Laptops
First, do not obstruct the normal ventilation of a laptop. The ventilation is normally found under your laptop. If you look under, you would see a small gaping hole where the heat is blown out by a fan. People normally violate this rule by placing their laptops on the bed or any flat soft surface that suffocates the ventilation causing the heat to be trapped inside the laptop.
Second, do not use a laptop in a hot room or environment. This seems pretty obvious. Using a laptop somewhere hot definitely contributes to the overheating of a laptop. If you really have to use your laptop in a hot environment, then make sure to bring along a laptop cooler with you to ease the heat (for at least a bit…).
Third, do not let dust to build up and block the ventilation. As time passes by, dust will certainly build up around the ventilation. And when that happens, the amount of heat blown away will be reduced leaving the heat trapped within the laptop causing overheating. So make sure to clean the laptop of dusts every now and then. You can do so by using readily available aerosol air dusters that can be found in computer stores.
The 3 Dos of Laptops
Do buy a laptop cooler! This cannot be stressed enough. A laptop cooler is a must for your laptop. Buying a laptop cooler is like buying new batteries for your laptop as it can extend the battery life of your laptop. Not only that, a laptop cooler helps in cooling the laptop as a whole including the important part of the laptop such as the hard disk, the memory, etc…
Do use your laptop in a cool place! This is the opposite of the 2nd don’t above. But this has to be repeated by mentioning the opposite obvious for emphasis. If you are using your laptop for gaming or for long business use, then using it in a well air-conditioned room is a must. Not only will it keep the laptop cool, it would also keep you cool.
Do unplug unused devices connected via USB! Connecting unused devices via USB creates an unnecessary load that generates unnecessary heat. So it goes without saying that unplugging them will cool down your laptop.
Following the dos and don’ts above will certainly extend the lifespan of your laptop. So if you really value your laptop and treat it as an investment, follow the tips above religiously.
