Now how about a laptop cooler without a fan? Without connecting it to the USB port for power? Is that even possible? Yes it is! The XPAD laptop cooler has done it and many seems to be content and happy with its performance.

Now you may ask, how does it cool a laptop without fans? Well, the XPAD website says that the laptop is already engineered to be self-cooling and just needs extra breathing room to fulfill its purpose. The XPAD does that by elevating the laptop to give it extra room. And since no fans are needed, it comes without saying that no power is needed thus it need not connect to your USB ports for power consumption.

Here are its specs:
LIGHT-WEIGHT: Weighing in at less than a pound, Xpad feels amazingly light!
UNIVERSAL FIT: Xpad will accommodate Laptops with screen sizes up to 17 inches!
Please measure the distance between the rubber feet on your laptop – they should fit within a 14.5″ x 10.5″ footprint.
ERGONOMIC: Xpad is optimally sized to fit on your lap while gripping your laptop so that it won’t slide when used on an incline.
PORTABLE: A slim profile means Xpad will fit in most Laptop bags along with your Laptop.

For added measure, watch the video below to find out about the XPAD laptop cooler and heat shield for real:

Thus if the fan is blocked by your legs when you put the pad on it, the air intake is affected. So unlike the N100, this problem is not an issue at all.

Its design is also meant to reduce damage by dust. This is done by enclosing the internal fan with another layer as can be seen below:

A laptop is called a laptop because you put them on your lap when you use it. Same goes with a desktop. It is a computer you put on your desk. Laptops are cool because of their portability and sometimes stylish looks but can sometimes cause uncomfortableness when put on your lap for long periods of time. This is due to the heat emanating from the laptop that fries your lap and the uneasy position you are in when the laptop is placed on your lap. This particular problem has been solved by a certain Laptop Cool Table (as seen in the picture above…).

The Laptop Cool Table claims to transform your laptop into a portable desktop. This is because you get to have the comfort of using a desktop in which the laptop is no longer placed on your lap but instead on a portable table with 2 fans that act as coolers. So basically this is an enlarged laptop cooler with legs.

Size: 18″L, 10.75″W, 1.125″D

There are many laptop coolers out there but this is the laptop cooler that I have personally chosen for my Acer Aspire laptop. Belkin calls it a laptop cooling stand so if you are looking for a Belkin laptop cooler, then you have come to the right place because now I will talk about this cool looking laptop cooling stand for you to judge.

I have actually bought this stand for its cool and stylish looks. If I were to buy and invest money on a laptop cooler, I might as well buy one that looks good with or without my laptop. Out of all the coolers I looked at, the Belkin F5L001 looked the best. Part of its cool looks comes from its patented wave design. Unlike the other laptop coolers that look ‘geeky’ and unstylish, its wave design not only pleases the eye, it actually has a more defined purpose which I am going to expound on further.

The Belkin F5L001 is different from other laptop coolers in that it doesn’t suck the heat out from the bottom of the laptop but instead blows it out. The concept is same as blowing your hot food to make it cooler or blowing on a hot cup of coffee to cool it down (you don’t suck the heat right? I don’t…). This is where the wave design comes in. When the cooling stand blows out the heat, the hot air exits via the natural air flow to the left and the right of the laptop through the space created by the wave design. See the diagram below for a clearer picture:

It also makes use of only one fan thus its power consumption is less leading to less heat generated. To use the cooler, you just have to plug it into one of your available USB slot and you are all set.

Belkin has also taken into consideration your different angles of usage. Like many of us, we use our laptop on our unstable laps. To make sure that our laptops don’t slip easily the Belkin F5L001 also has rubber pads on the top and the bottom of the surface. Neck and wrist strain is considerably reduced becaue of the gentle slope created when raisin the stand. Some say that it is noisy but it is not. The reason for this might be because the fan is probably dirty. Once you clean the fan after a period of usage, then everything will back to normal.

So if you are contemplating on buying a laptop cooler, add the Belkin F5L001 into your list as I am personally vouching for it.

Most if not all electronic devices generate heat and laptops are not exempt. The more powerful the laptop, the more heat it generates. It can be compared to running wherein the faster and harder a runner runs, the more body heat would be expelled from the runner. However, such heat is not welcome and is definitely a laptop’s archenemy. It has been proven time and time again to damage the laptop’s internal parts that brings the laptop to a complete halt. Memories get fried and hard disks get burned leaving the laptop owner frustrated and at a loss of words. Thus, avoiding such a problem is of the utmost importance for laptop owners and the number one solution to that problem is to buy laptop coolers. However, laptop owners might not be tech savvy and ask, how do they choose a good laptop cooler?

There are many factors to consider when buying a laptop cooler. Price, portability, technology and personal preference are some of the aspects to consider before buying one. Making all these factors jive is the key to buying a laptop cooler without regret. Let us take a look at each one of these factors.

The first one is of course the price. Laptop coolers vary in price. They can sell for as cheap as $5 dollars to as high as $60. Of course, with greater price comes better quality. If money is of no object, then buying an expensive one would certainly be an investment worth going for. However, that does not mean that those cheap laptop coolers won’t do the job. They might just be of lower quality and might last shorter. Choosing an average priced laptop cooler would certainly do the trick.

Portability is another key aspect to consider. There are 2 types of laptop coolers, one is fixed and the other one can be folded. Obviously, folded ones are more portable since it can fold up to a much compact size and be fit into a laptop bag. However, folded laptop coolers tend to consume more power to increase the rotation of the fans. On the other hand, fixed laptop coolers have a one-piece construction. They cannot be folded and are thus less transportable. But the upside is it has lower power consumption. In this aspect, fixed laptop coolers are better because though they are less transportable because of the space it consumes, that space is negligible because laptop coolers are generally small in size and can fit in any laptop bag.

Not all laptop coolers are created equal. Some are created using the latest technology in heat dissipation. This is related to the price factor mentioned just now as higher technology laptop coolers are generally more expensive than normal ones. They also tend to consume less power thus preserving battery life.

Last but not the least is personal preference. Choosing a laptop cooler is not all geeky stuff but can be influenced by personal style. Choose the color, shape and size of the laptop cooler that is soothing to your eyes. Buy one that meets your likes and suits your style. That is the key to a long laptop cooler life (because you would take care of it) and thus to a longer laptop life.

There are other factors to consider but the ones above are the primary ones that should affect any laptop cooler buyer’s decision.

So you have finally taken my advice and bought a laptop cooler to protect one of your most precious investments, your laptop. You probably bought a laptop online via one of the online stores or you have bought a laptop cooler at one of the physical brick and mortar PC stores out there. Whatever the case, you have made the right decision and you won’t regret it. But then comes the question, how do I take care of the laptop cooler? Is it worth taking care of?

The answer to the 2nd question is yes while the first one requires a longer discussion. Taking care of your laptop cooler is an investment in an investment. If you don’t take care of your laptop cooler who (or what) would take care of your laptop (and its overheating problems)? Yes, you have to take care of it for the obvious answers to the questions above. Taking care of them is easy and simple and is a no brainer. So let’s get on to it.

A laptop cooler has a fan (or fans) much like the laptop. And like all fans, they accumulate dust over time. Dust is another enemy of electronics and that is another indirect reason to take care and clean our laptop coolers. We clean our laptop coolers like how we clean our laptops. We can use an aerosol air duster to dislodge the dust. Then we can use a vacuum cleaner to suck the dislodged dust out.

Another aspect of taking care of our laptop coolers is … you. Laptop coolers are normally made of plastic. And as such, it can break into pieces when it crashes to the floor (or anything hard for that matter…). If you do not treat your laptop cooler as an investment in an investment and take it for granted, you ultimately will get careless sometimes and let it slip-off your laptop causing it to smash into pieces. You do not want that as it is a waste of money and time (you would have to buy a new one…).

In the end, taking care of a laptop cooler boils down to common sense. It is not a complicated gadget to take care of and even a grade school student could care for it without qualms. Look for ways to keep it nice and clean and by so doing will be taking care of it.

Do you consider your laptop an investment? If yes, then the answer to our question, “is a laptop cooler worth getting”, would be yes. If we look around the stores in a mall, we often find ‘protectors’ of all kinds. We see cell phone protectors, laptop jackets, etc… which has a sole purpose – to protect our digital goods. The same can be said about laptop coolers. It is created to protect our laptop not from the outside but from the inside. It is designed to cool our laptops so that it would last longer and stay protected from internal damage. Let us check out the top 3 damages we can keep our laptops from when we buy and use a laptop cooler.

If you work in an office environment and use a laptop or a desktop as the primary tool for work, then chances are your office is well air-conditioned. The primary reason for this is so that our workstations, be it a laptop or desktop, stays cool. This is because heat is a mortal enemy of any electronic devices. A hot electronic device is always in danger of getting damaged and we do not want that. Our laptops’ LCD could fail or the memory could be fried causing the laptop to be useless.

Another important part of the laptop that can be damaged due to overheating is the laptop’s battery. We like laptops with long battery life so that we can bring our laptops anywhere and recharge it as little as possible. But if we abuse our laptops and do not take care of it by letting it overheat, then the battery life is at stake. You may have heard of stories of new laptops having a battery lifespan of less than hour even though it is new. More often than not, that is due to overheating.

The laptop hard drive/disk can also get fried due to overheating and we don’t want that especially if our laptop is used for office or business purposes. That would mean loss of important business data or more seriously of client data. Such losses are never good for the business since management of any business revolves around good analysis of information. If we lose information stored in a laptop, then there would be analysis to be done for good business management.

So as you can see, a laptop cooler is definitely worth getting. If you want to make sure your laptop stays for a long time, you would need to invest in it by making sure that it gets proper cooling and one of the best ways to do that is to buy a laptop cooler.

Getting a laptop can be one of the best things to happen in life especially if you have been yearning for one for a very long time. You might have saved for a few months by not eating that favorite snack or not going to Starbucks everyday just to save some change that is enough to buy a laptop. In any case, buying a laptop is an investment worth protecting. Laptops are not cheap gadgets we could throw around just for fun. They should be cared for if you want it to last for a long time (or as long as it should…). However, like all gadgets laptops get hot when used for long periods of time. The heat generated can damage your laptop and you want to avoid that. So now we are going to look at a few laptop cooling tips that can help all laptop owners avoid having their laptop overheat.

The 3 Don’ts of Laptops

First, do not obstruct the normal ventilation of a laptop. The ventilation is normally found under your laptop. If you look under, you would see a small gaping hole where the heat is blown out by a fan. People normally violate this rule by placing their laptops on the bed or any flat soft surface that suffocates the ventilation causing the heat to be trapped inside the laptop.

Second, do not use a laptop in a hot room or environment. This seems pretty obvious. Using a laptop somewhere hot definitely contributes to the overheating of a laptop. If you really have to use your laptop in a hot environment, then make sure to bring along a laptop cooler with you to ease the heat (for at least a bit…).

Third, do not let dust to build up and block the ventilation. As time passes by, dust will certainly build up around the ventilation. And when that happens, the amount of heat blown away will be reduced leaving the heat trapped within the laptop causing overheating. So make sure to clean the laptop of dusts every now and then. You can do so by using readily available aerosol air dusters that can be found in computer stores.

The 3 Dos of Laptops

Do buy a laptop cooler! This cannot be stressed enough. A laptop cooler is a must for your laptop. Buying a laptop cooler is like buying new batteries for your laptop as it can extend the battery life of your laptop. Not only that, a laptop cooler helps in cooling the laptop as a whole including the important part of the laptop such as the hard disk, the memory, etc…

Do use your laptop in a cool place! This is the opposite of the 2nd don’t above. But this has to be repeated by mentioning the opposite obvious for emphasis. If you are using your laptop for gaming or for long business use, then using it in a well air-conditioned room is a must. Not only will it keep the laptop cool, it would also keep you cool.

Do unplug unused devices connected via USB! Connecting unused devices via USB creates an unnecessary load that generates unnecessary heat. So it goes without saying that unplugging them will cool down your laptop.

Following the dos and don’ts above will certainly extend the lifespan of your laptop. So if you really value your laptop and treat it as an investment, follow the tips above religiously.

When do you buy car insurance? The best time would be together with the car. This is to make sure that your car is insured from any damages incurred right after the sale. How about anti-virus software, when do you install it? The best time would be right after you install your operating system. This is so that any virus attack can be taken care of and dealt with when it strikes. So do you see where I am leading with this? Yes, you probably know the answer to the question above but let us expound a little bit.

What would happen if you buy a laptop cooler a few months after you buy your laptop? Well, hopefully nothing. If you are a veteran laptop user, you probably know of the dos and don’ts in taking care of your laptop and preventing it from overheating. But if you are one of those that are not, then chances are your laptop has already experienced overheating without you doing anything about it. You might have considered it normal until you encountered your first blue screen of death (if you are a Windows user…). This would probably irk you leading you to learn about cooling your laptop as a solution and leading you to the decision to buy a laptop cooler.

But what if you have decided to buy a laptop cooler right after or together with your laptop? Chances are you are still enjoying your laptop to the full without you experiencing any technical glitches or the likes. If you are a gamer, your gaming experience would be flawless all thanks to the cooling power of your laptop cooler. If you are an employee or a businessman using a laptop as a tool, then your work would be uninterrupted by unnecessary technical glitches.

Yes having a laptop cooler to cool your laptop could definitely make a big impact. Without it, laptop overheating would be a big problem for you. Fried hard disks, burnt memories and damaged LCDs are some of the common damages caused by laptop overheating that could have been averted by investing in a laptop cooler. Thus it is a very wise decision to buy a laptop cooler together with your laptop. If that is not possible for some reason, make sure to plan on buying one as soon as possible to protect your laptop.
